Google once again updates Penguin Images

Google once again updates Penguin ImagesGoogle has relied on Twitter to release news that Google is launching the latest “data refresh” of its Penguin spam-fighting algorithm today and that it will affect searches across multiple languages. The original penguin algorithm that was released last April, this is the third time when an update has been received about the algorithm, that is the reason let’s call it as Penguin 3.0. The previous two 1.1, 1.2 and the chart may continue.

Penguins already in the market

The below given numerical data shows the penguins released till date and its effect on the English language queries.

Penguin 1: April 24, 2012 (3.1%)
Penguin 2: May 26, 2012 (less than 0.1%)
Penguin 3: Oct. 5, 2012 (0.3%)

A brief detailing about penguin 3.0

Matt Cutts the chief of Google’s spam team took a series of tweets to leak the news in market about the penguins. In the first tweet he says that the penguin data fresh is on its way which may be affecting probably 0.3% of language queries noticeably. The exact words of his tweet can be notified here

‘He then made further amendments to the above tweet via another tweet that like these that mention the update will also impact a small percentage of queries in other languages such as Spanish, Italian and French’

And the tweet was as follow:

@gfiorelli1 it will roll out for other languages at same time. Spanish impact is ~0.4%. Italian impact is ~0.3% of queries. Hope that helps.

How Google is capable of determining the queries affected?

Google once again updates Penguin ImagesIt’s for the first time Google followers rather its preachers are being informed about the tricks which make Google’s magic an efficient play. And exactly what it means by “noticeably affected”.

Here there is another conversation which explains further the meaning of “noticeably affected” as “above the fold”. The meaning was enlightened by Matt Cutts in a conversation with UK SEO Rob Watts.

“@robwatts Basically. Swapping a #10 result for a different #10 result might not be noticeable. Swapping out in (say) top 5 ->more noticeable

The first penguin was launched somewhere in late days of April and even though company was expected to target webspam in general according to its statements, the real impact fell on websites with what Google considers (too many) low-quality inbound links. Before this new release there was one previous update in May where Google promised further “jolts” in connection to the Penguin algorithm.
