Growth of Malware on Android Devices Has increased Dramatically.
Juniper Networks Mobile Threat Center reported malware attacks on mobile devices based on Android for the year 2011 increased by 3325 percent. The addition of a malicious program is claimed to be unprecedented.
Malicious programs that appear in Android malware 13 302 recorded at the end of 2011, up from 400 just before the malware. The addition of 400 to 13 302 numbers malware achieved within 6 months. Though mobile malware attacks on all platforms only increased 155 percent, from 11 138 malware in 2010 to 28 472 malware at the end of 2011.
When Android noted the addition of most malware, malware on the BlackBerry platform is only growing by 8 percent and the Java ME platform rose 49 percent. Most types of malware that was found in the Android is a type of spyware, with about 63 percent.
Of this amount approximately 36 percent of which is a Premium SMS trojan, about 30 percent of the malware that is able to retrieve location information without permission, and 14.7 percent of the malware that may have the ability to make calls without the user’s command.
With the report, shows that tend to increasingly sophisticated malware. Moreover, the presence of malware such as kungfu Droid that uses encryption to avoid detection of the charge and the Droid Dream disguises herself as a valid application.
Security experts, Bruce Schneier considers it is not surprising.
“I do not think this is quite surprising at all. Mobile is a new platform. Mobile is a platform that is very familiar. That’s where the malware will attack,” Schneier writes in his blog.
