How to Fix Boot Manager on MIUI and CM7?

For those with problems getting audio with the latest MIUI and CM7 ROM, or even with them using BootManager (like me), you may try flashing this audiofix. Flashing this zip will fix audio to the INSPIRE 4G without downgrading to LC 8.1 kernel or without installing the Tiamat or TalonACE kernels (nothing wrong with them, I find them great). Tested with MIUI (last build tested 2.4.6).

How to Fix Boot Manager on MIUI and CM7?

It’s incredibly frustrating when audio doesn’t work right. As many different things we use our devices for, one of the key features in these scenarios is that they involve sound. When the audio is messed up, it can really throw off user experience, and turn what should be an a great ROM into something no one wants to use. Owners of the HTC Inspire 4G have been running into said problems recently, most notably with using Boot Manager with CM7 and MIUI. Now, there’s a fix.

The fix, released by XDA Senior Member on XDA developers forum elbermu, is actually a modified version of InspireMod, but it adds a couple of extra files to help make the audio work again. The mod is easy to install, as it’s just a recovery-flashable update.zip. Elbermu explains the contents a little more clearly:

AIC3254_REG_DualMic_MCLK.csv and CodecDSPID_MCLK.txt.

NOTE: installing this in another ROMs may break sound (mic included) specially ICS. I’m not responsible for anything that may happen.

MAKE A BACKUP FIRST

Don’t attempt to use this fix on any ROM that isn’t in the aforementioned list, as it will likely do nothing more than break your audio altogether. And while fixes are nice, half working audio is better than no audio at all. In case this doesn’t work for you, you must either restore a Nandroid backup or navigate to /system/etc in your favorite file root-enabled manager and deleted the files manually.
